Hi there,

my 30year old son has diagnosis of bipolar and needing intervention - funds are limited as he has gambled away. Prince Charles was a nightmare. Seeking chats with others how to support. Recent relationship breakdown so support is on us.

any advise welcomed.

I'm sorry to hear that things are so difficult. I read how much you want to support your son. Bipolar can be tricky to manage at first, but once stable, people can manage very well with their symptoms.

Does he have any supports in place? That is, is he on medication? Does he see someone about his gambling?

At the same time, do you have supports in place to look after yourself?

Sorry for all these questions. Feel free to answer as little or much as you like.

yes he sees a psychiatrist and has meds but no to gambling help. 
doctors is leaning towards hospital admission. Very costly

I'm sorry to hear your son have very limited supports at the moment.

Would private health insurance be an option for you? Alternatively, is your son able to be admitted to a public inpatient unit? I'm not sure of how acute he is.

When I was unwell, all my treatment was in the public system even though I had private health. This was because I was acutely unwell and the private system wouldn't take me.

Hopefully an admission will help him to get his medication reviewed so that he can be more stable to receive counselling with regards to his gambling.
