Bipolar child

  • Hi all, our Child has recently been diagnosed with Bipolar 1 and is still recovering in hospital from her 1st Manic episode. Things have improved but she is still not back to herself yet. Our lives feel like a train wreck as we wait to see how she responds to her treatment, so many unknowns, like how is her life going to be after she recovers and returns home. Has anyone been through a similar experience and could share their story or advice.

Re: Bipolar child

Hey @Jack123 ,

We are sorry to hear you child is recovering in hospital after her first manic episode. It must be a very scary time for those involved and a lot of unknowns are in the air.

It may take some time to get on track in terms of finding the right medication and dosage for her, so guidance from doctors is so important.

There's no reason why you can't get your child back. People live very successfully when they learn to manage their symptoms and know their triggers and warning signs. It may take a bit of trial and error at first, but there is hope.

The most important thing at this time is ensuring you stay well, practice self-care and look after yourself so that you are there when she needs you most.

If you have questions, write them down and share these questions with the doctor. I recognise there's so much to learn so I hope you feel less alone in this when you connect on the forums.

Thank you for sharing.

Re: Bipolar child

How are you today @Jack123 ?

Re: Bipolar child

Feeling ok today, our Daughter is showing signs of improvement. We are hoping that the medication is starting to work and the manic episode is coming to an end. Day by day, as they say. Thank you for asking.

Re: Bipolar child

Many people manage their bipolar very well and go on to live successfully. There are good things ahead. It may take some time, and it may be a little rocky, but there's hope.

Please look after yourself so you get the support you need as a carer. @Jack123

We look forward to hearing how you go.
