Re: How do others cope

I just have my daughter 24 in mental hospital now for suspected schizophrenia ( my own opinion as the last opinion still pending treatment specialist) She’s always ups and downs for the last 6 weeks since admission! Agonisingly for  family to wait for end result to come which takes a long time may be weeks! Every time I paid a visit to Her and saw Her downs I shed tears of misery and cone back felt hopelessness and stressed enough not to sleep that night! Anyone who experienced this agony please talk to me and share with me everything to reduce

the pain on my family now! Thanks so much for your kind sharing!

Re: How do others cope

hi @Sonny3 and welcome to the forums. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter, that must be really distressing for you and I can hear the hopelessness in your words. Thank you for reaching out to us here, as you are not alone and I hope you will find some support here. It sounds like your daughter is at the start of her journey and there may be many ups and downs and I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to have some supports in place for yourself such as a psychologist or trusted GP?

I'm going to tag @Anastasia who may be able to help you.

Also leaving this thread here as there may be something of use to you.

If at any time you feel you need to chat to a counsellor, our support centre is open 10am-10pm and you can find the details here.

Please take care. Wishing you and your daughter all the best,

Paperdaisy

I'm sorry @Sonny3  that things are so tough for you at the moment.

Our dear @Krishna may be able to offer some insight into this situation.

Re: How do others cope

Hi @Sonny3 a very warm and understanding welcome to you. My girl also has schizophrenia now 28 diagnosed at 18. The early years of her diagnosis were ones filled with much pain confusion and anguish seeing the changes taking place in my daughter. From experience, the earlier this can be diagnosed and treatment started and adhered to, the better. Sadly, my daughter was non compliant regarding her medication from the start which led to a long hard 10 years of pain and suffering both for herself and her family. Too many ups and downs to mention. Too many sleepless nights. Now fortunately with the right medication taken regularly and the support she is receiving, she is in a more stable space. It is an illness that cannot be cured but with the right meds and support, a life can be lived. It is great to read your daughter is seeking treatment early. I won’t say it’s an easy road ahead because it won’t be and don’t want to sugarcoat the situation. It’s heartbreaking and at times truly overwhelming but learning to accept that it is what it is from the beginning will help you manage things a little easier. It is also crucial that you take good care of your own health and well-being and reach out for support for yourself when needed. Please feel free to tag me anytime you need to chat. My thoughts are with you and your family. 🙏❤️

Re: How do others cope

@Sonny3   I’m so very sorry for what you and your family are experiencing. I remember the fear, pain, confusion and ruminating thoughts about my daughters earlier years with this illness, were hard years to cope with. Many tears shed. Exhausting. Learning as much as you can about your daughter’s diagnosis will help you understand a little more. My daughter is now on the right medication and sleeping well at night. It takes time for all to adjust. As I mentioned in my last post, it’s been 10 years now since my daughters diagnosis and it’s taken me a long time to come to accept that this is now her life and that there is nothing I can do as her mum to fix this. All I can do is love her and hold on to hope. Getting the right support for you and your family is crucial whether it be your GP, a counsellor or psychologist. You need to be well for your daughter, your family and yourself. I understand and sympathise with you for the pain and uncertainty your experiencing and wish peace for you all. Rest is crucial. 🙏
