Re: Icebreakers time!

@ENKELI @Lowrida29 @ENKELI @PeppyPatti @rav3n

My mother tongue wasn’t English, so I really always tried to be creative around communication. We were dirt and concrete poor. I was grateful to live in public housing, thought we were rich to have lights, electricity and running water. I didn’t have many piano lessons as a kid, just a year.  We had to have a piano before a fridge, to placate my mother. Now I feel it might have led to dad’s early death. Yes, so many of us are of mixed heritage and I know well how cultural misunderstandings arise.

I did love that they started introducing a language other than English in primary schools when my kids were little. It was Indonesian, back then.

Had some good fur family moments this morning.

Re: Icebreakers time!

@rav3n  Hello lovely! 🥰 How are you? I’d definately want to be able to talk to animals!

Re: Icebreakers time!

Hi @rav3n and others. What a great question.

I'd love to be able to have the ability to speak with animals. I personally find learning new languages difficult - year 7-9 compulsory French classes in high school were boring and hard as I wasn’t interested in the subject- and it’s not a strong skill of mine unfortunately. I would have liked to have had conversations with my old cat and dog to see what they thought of me and my family, especially my old Jack Russell terrier Rosie- who was my best friend for many years and my cat, Mitz, who I lost last year who went through a period of psychosis with me during the COVID 19 lockdown in 2021. I believe animals can tell who are good and bad people and have read that horses have a thing about trust and mental health and how people react to them. It certainly would be interesting if animals could speak and tell us what they’re thinking as I’m sure lots of people would learn different ways of behaving and acting towards others.

Take care.

Re: Icebreakers time!

@PeppyPatti  Peps you have lived in that area a long time. You must know a lot of people in the neighbourhood?

Business owners and lots of community based groups?

Re: Icebreakers time!

@Glisten That's a nice thought, but not really, I don’t know as many people as you’d think.

(Sorry for the life story, but this is why): For years, my life had to be dedicated to recovery from a head injury and  careing which felt like a full-time job. I only recently found my freedom, and with it, a kind of nervous breakdown as I processed it all.

I’ve only just started to feel like I can look outside my own world. . My adult children now holds so much joy for me.

I met Mr Rocker who is certainly not a walk in the park lol. I fall back into old patterns because of easy fatigue and I guess confusion. But I look very fine.

Re: Icebreakers time!

@PeppyPatti  you explained your life very succinctly and perfectly clear for my ADHD self. Thank you very much.

Do you feel like life has opened up a scope of new possibilities for you?

Or is opening yourself up to community engagement a challenge for you?

The only reason I fit into Men’s Sheds is because I was raised by my Dad. I speak the language of tools. I’m comfortable around big machinery.

Peps, you could turn Mr Rocker’s place into your Art and Craft Studio

Re: Icebreakers time!

it's been so lovely reading everyone's responses!! even though there were 2 options given, it felt like everyone had a slightly different/unique answer which was really cool

@Appleblossom @Judi9877 they offered french or chinese when i was in year 7 (i chose french) but i have heard that some schools have introduced AUSLAN as an option now. i would've loved to learn that at school!

Re: Icebreakers time!

Mine would definitely be talking to animals @rav3n. I’d love to be able to understand what my dogs want.

Re: Icebreakers time!

i can already imagine that the convos with Jett and Pix would be so entertaining! @Captain24

Re: Icebreakers time!

They would be @rav3n but I would have to listen to Pix whinging all the time for a treat!
